Hammer space

Hammer space is a term used for a place where items that are pulled out of thin air or from impossibly small spaces are stored. This is usually used in cartoons and video games, where characters can hold a complete arsenal of items to use without the objects weighing them down. In the case of the Smurfs cartoon show, hammer spaces exist for the Smurf characters to hold any number of items ready to use whenever and wherever the story calls for the item to be used. Grandpa Smurf's beard also acts as that kind of space where he can hold any number of items on his person.
