The Smurflings were four young Smurfs who appeared in the Smurf Village about two years prior to Empath's final return from Psychelia in Vic George's fanfiction stories. The boy Smurflings, Nat, Snappy, and Slouchy, came from Smurfling Island where Smurflings stay perpetually young, while Sassette was a real Smurf who was imprisoned in a crystal and released by the boy Smurflings, who upon her release was made to believe that she also was a magically-created female Smurf like Smurfette. Like their cartoon show universe counterparts, the Smurflings also live together in a tree stump playhouse and behave in the same manner, though Sassette has given up the twin-braided look and the Smurf hat for a pink bow and a single ponytail. The four of them easily take to Empath since he is the only young adult Smurf among his peers who has incredible powers, some of which are similar to the Smurflings' leader on Smurfling Island, Smurfling Pan.

According to one of the stories in the series, the first song that the Smurflings had performed at a Smurfstock Festival was "Smurfbop" (an analog to the Hanson hit song of 1997 "MMMBop"), which became a very popular hit and the beginning of a shift in musical styles among most of the young adult Smurfs.
