There is a small group of fanfiction writers and artists who create their own stories based on the Smurfs, either from the cartoon show (indicated as cartoon show universe), the original comic books (may be referred to as "Peyoverse"), or a mixture of both. Most of the work is not-for-profit, since the Culliford family still holds the rights to the cartoon characters.

The Raven Child
Her work is a three-story series where the Smurfs meet a Smurfette Village and eventually become friends with its residents. Her stories presumably take place after the events of Season 9, when the time-lost Smurfs return to their present time. Her stories include:

Vic George
His work includes a novel called EMPATH: The Luckiest Smurf, plus a series of stories featuring the main character of the novel. His stories are set somewhere between Seasons 5 and 6, but take place in an alternate universe combining elements of the cartoon show universe with those from the original comic books. His work is also taking place during Season 9 by doing a crossover-story with another series "Thomas & Friends", with the time-lost Smurfs visiting Thomas and his friends in the Island of Sodor.
