He is a genie whom [[Brainy]] and [[Clumsy]] had found by the Smurf river after escaping [[Azrael]] and nearly surviving the waterfall -- or rather, as he claims, he has found them -- who comes out of his bottle every 100 years to grant three wishes to whoever says the magic words "pumpernickel pickle". The downside, however, is that the person must come up with the magic words before sundown or else Genie Meanie goes back into the bottle for another 100 years, wishes or no wishes. Another problem is that, as his name indicates, Genie Meanie is a meanie who enjoys playing magic tricks on people for his own amusement -- causing a cake [[Greedy]] was offering the genie to go splat on his own face, making cakes materialize to go splat on the other [[Smurfs (race)|Smurfs]]' faces, causing [[Hefty]] to go hit himself, and even making carrots grow out of [[Papa Smurf]]'s face. But two people did manage to get the correct magic words to summon Genie Meanie's power for granting wishes -- [[Gargamel]] and Papa Smurf. Gargamel had used his wishes to transport himself to the [[Smurf Village]] and to capture all but Brainy and Papa Smurf, the latter of whom just as Azrael was cornering him succeeded in finding the magic words himself. With Papa Smurf's wishes, Gargamel and Azrael were sent out of the village, everything was restored back to normal, and Genie Meanie had to stay in the bottle until he stopped being mean. With the final wish fulfilled, the Smurfs dumped his bottle back into the river.
